Biography

Maria Kublashvili was born in Georgia. From early childhood she had a sound musical education in piano playing at Makvala Kashrashvili Music School. She then studied opera singing at the Conservatory of Tbilisi with Gocha Bejuashvili and got her master degree there.

In 2016 she got a second master degree in voice at the Art University Graz with Claudia Rüggeberg. In 2022 she got a qualification in music education at Zurich University of Arts. She attended masterclasses of Christa Ludwig, Michele Crider, Angelika Kirchschlager, Rudolf Jansen, Brigitte Fassbänder, Deborah Polaski etc. She got numerous scholarships and several prizes, e.g. first prize at Accademia Belcanto (Austria) and at the Competition for Musicians and Singers in Georgia, third prizes at the International Montserrat Caballé Competition (Spain); in addition the Audience Award at the 30th International Competition Maria Caniglia (Italy), and International Competition at Byulbyul (Aserbaijan). She was a finalist at the 30th International Hans Gabor Belvedere Competition (Austria) and also at the International Competition Rolando Nicolosi for Lyrical Singers and accompanists (Italy). In Tbilisi she received an award as „Successful Young Singer of Georgia“.

On stage she performed in the role of Gilda (RIGOLETTO) in Tbilisi, Kutaisi and Graz, Margalita (FIRST LOVE) and Norina (DON PASQUALE) in Georgia, Mrs. Fluth (THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR) in Graz, Adele (in the operetta „DIE FLEDERMAUS“) at Theater St. Gallen, Queen of the Night (THE MAGIC FLUTE) in Tbilisi. Graz, Mannheim, Basel, at the Festival Gut Immling, at St. Margarethen Festival, Austria and at Theater St. Gallen. In addition she sang numerous Lieder concerts at home and abroad.

Her opera repertoire comprises parts such as Pamina (THE MAGIC FLUTE), Rosina (THE BARBER OF SEVILLE), Lucia (LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR), Adina (THE ELIXIR OF LOVE), Giulietta (THE CAPULETS AND THE MONTAGUES), Musetta (LA BOHEME), Violetta (LA TRAVIATA), Blondchen/Konstanze (THE ABDUCTION FROM THE SERAGLIO). Semiramide (SEMIRAMIDE), Donna Anna (DON GIOVANNI), Oscar (UN BALLO IN MASCHERA), Morgana (ALCINA), A Young Shepherd (TANNHÄUSER), Forest bird (SIEGFRIED), Fiakermilli (ARABELLA), Adele (DIE FLEDERMAUS), Cunegonde (Candide), Lakmé (LAKME).

From September 2016 to August 2018 she was a member oft he International Opera Studio at Cologne Opera where she sang the most different parts: Philidel in Purcell’s „KING ARTHUR“, Nanetta in „FALSTAFF“, Heinzelmännchen in „DIE HEINZELMÄNNCHEN ZU KÖLN“, Meermädchen in Weber’s „OBERON“, Soprano 1 in „DAS LIED DER FRAUEN VOM FLUSS“, Ein Mädchen in Schreker’s „DIE GEZEICHNETEN“, Woglinde in „THE RHINEGOLD“, Venus in „ORPHEUS IN DER UNTERWELT“, Contessa Armelinda in „GLI UCCELLATORI“, Lucia in „RAPE OF LUCRETIA“ etc.

Since 2018 she has been a freelancer and in 2023 she sings The Queen oft he Night and gives two concerts in Taiwan.
